Art book Christian Dotremont

Belgium has always been a country of great artists. One is the late Christian Dotremont, co-founder of the famed avant-garde art movement CoBRA and inventor of logograms – a type of graphic poetry. So a man with an important cultural legacy, now brought back to life in its entirety thanks to Samuel Vanhoegaerden of the gallery of the same name in Knokke. He spoke to us for the creation of a comprehensive catalog that beautifully depicts 130 logograms of the artist/poet.

About paper

To perfectly highlight the poetic value of the imagery, we chose Extramatt Touch from Mohawk. This is the world’s first uncoated paper and is quite rough, making it very easy to hold.

Then again, the cover is the result of Wibalin Cotton White, a paper that shows off the brush strokes in black foil very nicely. It gives the book a very artistic look, especially when combined with the sewn binding.

The art book is a tribute to the poet and artist through the artistic way Dotremont’s work is portrayed.
