6 October was finally the day: the third edition of Café Cliché. After successful events on the power of colours and traditional printing techniques such as letterpress and foil printing, this time it was all about books. And what a success it was. The number of visitors was five times higher than the previous two times. Who says we don’t read anymore? Let’s talk about books, baby!
Were you there? Then you undoubtedly noticed how large the turnout was. No fewer than 248 marketers, graphic designers, photographers, publishers and artists wanted to know everything about the latest trends and innovations in book printing. A surprise? Perhaps, given that it is generally assumed that most people hardly read anymore. We opened the evening with that comment and immediately consigned it to the dustbin.
Marketing strategist Koen Denolf opened the debates and conveyed his passion for print to the audience in a delightful manner. As a great lover of print media and self-proclaimed “content prophet”, he has just written a book about content marketing. What types of books are there? What trends are emerging? What does the future of books look like? Denolf left no question unanswered and provided the perfect introduction to the theme.
On 6 October, they proudly presented their creation during a panel discussion at Café Cliché. Moderator Chloé Van Elsen from Aris&Totell engaged in dialogue with the photographers and with Tina De Souter, who took on the design of the books. There was a delightful verbal ping-pong between the creative minds, after which the story behind each book was laid bare on the table. Rarely has the love for books been so tangible.
Café Cliché wasn’t just about books. The event also offered a unique opportunity to five promising photographers. Supported by our printing company and several generous sponsors, they were able to create an art book, which we showcased extensively during the evening. A few months ago, we selected five lucky winners with an original project from more than 200 entries: Timo Vergauwen, Carolle Servayge, Noortje Palmers, Jasper Declercq and Stijn Van der Linden.

Teamwork makes the dream work. You can’t do it alone. After Koen Denolf, paper manufacturer Fedrigoni and packaging specialist Moeskops Grafisch took the floor. Their approach: how you can add extra experience to your book with special paper and original packaging. As an example, they used a slipcase containing four art books, which we created in collaboration with them and book designer Tina De Souter. A beautiful creation that every Café Cliché visitor took home with them at the end of the evening.
