And before you know it, it’s 5 January. The Christmas tree is still there, but it has seen better days. And the Christmas card? It’s almost rotting away in the head of someone who thought, ‘We’ll do that next week.’
Enter: the New Year’s card. The underdog of end-of-year communications. Far too often dismissed as a second choice or too little too late.
Unfairly so, because let’s be honest: among all the automated emails and scheduled social media posts, a paper card remains a small act of rebellion. You can’t click away paper, archive it or mute it. It ends up on a desk or pinned to a notice board. And sometimes, wow… Very occasionally, it even stays there. Magnificent!
So yes, perhaps a New Year’s card is a belated Christmas card. But it’s also one with guts. Because you still made the effort. Because you realise that relationships don’t end on 31 December. And because “too late” is sometimes just “in time”.
So to all the marketers reading this and thinking, ‘should we still…?’
The answer is simple: yes.
Before it’s too late for that too.
Yours sincerely,
Buroform.
Make sure that “too late” is not an excuse this year.
