There is a lot of variety within the Buroform crew. Curious about what it’s like to work for us? Then take a look behind the scenes.

Robin de Ceuster

My name is Robin and I have been working at Buroform for over four years now. You could call me the jack-of-all-trades within the finishing team.

At Buroform, I am responsible for…

I am part of the team that “finishes” the printed matter. Within that team, my role is actually twofold. Firstly, I am responsible for the Horizon StitchLiner, which means that I cut, stitch, glue, bind and fold brochures and leaflets. So I put the finishing touches to the printed matter myself. On the other hand, I act as the right-hand man to our team leader. I am the point of contact for my colleagues and help with coordinating the work, adjusting the machines, you name it.

I got my job at Buroform through…

After my studies, I worked as a graphic designer and digital printer for five years. I then spent six months operating the folding machine at another company. I didn’t enjoy that last challenge so much. Not because of the work itself, but because we worked in a shift system. I had to sacrifice a lot of my social life, and that’s something I find very important. At a certain point, I came into contact with Jesse, a manager at Buroform. He was looking for someone for both the graphic design team and the finishing team. Since I had experience in both areas, I was allowed to choose. I chose finishing. I like to have control over the end product. Every detail has to be right. What goes into the box on its way to the customer has to be perfect in every detail.

My morning routine is…

I get up around 6 a.m., get ready calmly and leave for Mechelen, where I start my working day at 8 a.m. I have to commute for half an hour, so I leave early to try to avoid the worst of the traffic.

What people don’t know about my job is…

I have to pay attention to a lot of things, some of which are tiny details. For example, it’s my job to help ensure that my colleagues can do their jobs perfectly. I check whether the paper has arrived correctly, whether the printed matter has been packaged as requested by the customer, and whether everything has been done as stated on the work orders. These are all small things that can have major consequences if they are not followed up meticulously.

At the weekend, you’ll find me…

Rarely at home! I enjoy working out, playing football and going out with friends. My social life is incredibly important to me. During the week, I’m constantly out and about too: football training, indoor football… I’m happy when I’m around people.

If I wasn’t a member of the finishing team, I would be…

Perhaps a cartoonist. Even in primary school, I was constantly told how well I could draw. Later, I studied graphic design, and people must have noticed my talent there too. At one point, I was even asked by a company in Ostend to work as a cartoonist. But I was still young, and I didn’t want to be so far from home. Leaving everyone behind, I didn’t like the idea. I didn’t take the plunge then, and although many people still don’t understand, I don’t regret it. I made other choices and I’m still very happy with them.

The best career advice I ever received…

‘That I’m a stupid chicken for never getting into that comic strip business!’ 😀
No, I’m not sure. Personally, I believe you should use your head and always go for it. My motto is: give 100% and have no regrets. I could have been a cartoonist. I chose the graphic design sector. And I love my job.

Stay tuned. We will continue to share stories about each member of our team. That way, you can find out what it’s really like to work at Buroform.
