Vlassak Verhulst

A stone... or a book?

Timeless, tangible and finished to perfection

For high-end architectural firm Vlassak Verhulst, we created a portfolio book that feels like an object. Or a stone. Or a book? In any case: solid, elegant and pure.

The assignment was simple: we would create a book that would blend completely into a stone. When the book was placed on the stone, you simply couldn’t see it. An ambitious challenge that immediately got us thinking.

“We contributed ideas, tested materials, and together explored the limits of what paper can achieve. And that was noticed. We are proud to announce that this project is a finalist for the Fedrigoni Top Award 2025.”

Paper with the character of stone

We examined the stone from every angle: scanning, photographing, editing – everything to perfectly reproduce its texture and colour in print. To ensure the end result was just right, we printed it on special paper that had the same feel as the stone. Each print attempt brought us closer to our goal: ensuring that the book would blend seamlessly with the stone.

The finishing touch? An embossed print on the cover, so that the Vlassak Verhulst logo looks as if it has been carved directly from the stone. This detail completes the look and shows how far we go to make your project unique. We keep going until it’s right, and this project proves that in every way. The result? A book that not only impresses, but also makes a statement in design and craftsmanship.

Fedrigoni Top Award 2025

We also took part in a competition once… And suddenly we were in the final of the Fedrigoni Top Award 2025!

The Fedrigoni Top Award is an international design competition with 989 entries from around the world, and this book is among the four finalists in the Creative Communication category.

On 5 June, we will travel to Paris for the award ceremony. Will we win? We have no idea. But this already feels like recognition for what we love doing most: creating exceptionally beautiful printed matter.
