Artists such as Rob Buelens challenge us to view the world through a different lens. In his latest art book, he pays tribute to collaboration. Community spirit is increasingly giving way to individualism. Through his work, he shows how unity and collective effort can lead to something big and meaningful. His monumental constructions, made up of countless small figures, tell the story of human endeavour.
Book designer Tina De Souter translated this fascinating concept into a book that seamlessly matches Rob Buelens’ work in terms of form and material.

“The vertical dynamics in Buelens’ works inspired me for the shape of the book. The tall and narrow format (20x32cm) reinforces that architectural look. The cover of Napura Madeira evokes the warm texture of wood, the material he primarily works with in his art. The title is executed in copper-coloured hot foil and stacked vertically, so that the typography reflects his compositions.
The spine is finished with rust-coloured linen printed with black, matt foil featuring a host of busy little figures. This makes the book instantly recognisable on the bookshelf, not because of the predictable placement of the title on the spine, but because of the figures that play the leading role in the art book.”
