In early January, Mechelen-based regional photographer David Legrève published “Weldra Opening” (Opening Soon). His first book is entirely devoted to the past year of the coronavirus pandemic. It is a reference work that is as hilarious as it is poignant, because it so aptly captures the absurdity of the situation. The photographer contacted Tina De Souter to design the book. She opted for subtlety and let the images speak for themselves. The cover photo, for example, shows an unfinished, fogged-up display case with the title written on it. A raw image that goes perfectly with the natural cardboard on which it is stamped. What’s more, the open spine further emphasises this unpretentious atmosphere.
