Samuel Vanhoegaerden knows how to choose his masters. Last summer, his “SEE OR SEEM” exhibition featured the works of visual artist Fred Eerdekens. Eerdekens’ flair for language developed while he was still attending the Academy of Hasselt. However, his distinctive sculptures with copper letters came about purely by chance. ‘When I had to cut a copper plate in my studio, the sun fell on a copper flake. I suddenly recognised my handwriting in the shadow. From that moment on, I started manipulating copper into shadow letters.’
