It’s official: Buroform has made it to the finals of the Fedrigoni Top Award 2025! Together with our client Vlassak Verhulst, we received the Special Mention by Fedrigoni in Paris. And the best part? This was the first time we participated in a competition. And then we made it to the finals right away? That makes us want more!
The grand finale of the Top Awards took place in the magnificent Pavillon Gabriel in Paris, located in the Jardins des Champs-Élysées. The day was filled with inspiring talks by the jury, who shared their vision on paper, design, and printing.
Four finalists
In the “Creative Communication” category, four projects stood out among the more than 900 entries from 27 countries: first place went to unbound by Dienacht Publishing (Germany). They presented a completely handmade book with silky-smooth screen printing on handmade paper.
Second place went to Pocket Decision Book by Studio DIP (Czech Republic), a compact flip book that chooses “YES” or “NO” with a single page turn. One for those who find it difficult to make decisions.
Third place went to The Art of Frescoes in Florence by Sale Grosso (Italy). A travel kit with a guide, fold-out map and bookmark. Ideal for those who enjoy walking past Florence’s famous frescoes.
And then suddenly came the Special Mention by Fedrigoni to Buroform: an honourable recognition that rewards our collaboration with Vlassak Verhulst. We are incredibly proud!
There is a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category, chosen by a jury that is independent of Fedrigoni. In addition, there is the Special Mention by Fedrigoni: an extra podium place for technical ingenuity that caught the jury’s attention.
Although we did not win the top prize, we did receive the Special Mention by Fedrigoni. Not every category received this honourable mention, so it was a great honour for us. Our approach was recognised!
We got to know the jury better through their own unique perspectives.
Paul Boudens kicked things off with “NOT DEAD YET”, a look back at his thirty-year career in fashion and culture. His motto #notdeadyet says that he is far from burnt out, but hungry for new challenges.
Melanie Mues shared her experience from twenty years of collaborating with artists. Her stories about co-creation show how creativity and art engage in dialogue in book format.
Kate Marlow introduced her Beautility philosophy: “making good choices desirable”. Using cases from luxury and lifestyle brands, she explained how sustainability and functionality go hand in hand with beauty.
Gustavo Greco took us on a journey through his “Brazilian Blend” and answered the question: can you recognise Brazilian design? What we took away from his talk is that diversity, interdisciplinarity and rich cultural influences can lead to breathtaking solutions.
We didn’t make it to the talks in the morning, but Simon Esterson, Silvana Amato, Marianne Givone and Sebastiàn Yañez also completed the jury panel.
The Fedrigoni Top Award jury looks for sustainability, out-of-the-box thinking, experimentation with materials, and the creation of printed matter that is simply perfect.
The cover of the book, with its stone texture and detailed debossing, shows how we continue to push the boundaries of print. Did you know that Vlassak Verhulst himself colours in the engraved “V” on the cover by hand with a fine pencil? This is to further enhance the engraved effect. Yes, that’s how high the bar is set here.
