When you ask us to print a brochure, we automatically think in CMYK. Buro Knal deliberately took a step back: from four colours down to two. The result? Something truly unique that’s hard to replicate.
CMYK printing works with four base inks that together can simulate almost any colour. By choosing 2 Pantone colours instead of the usual 4, Buro Knal opens a door that CMYK can never open. Pantone inks are purely mixed colours. More intense, more vibrant — sometimes almost electric. They jump off the page in a way no CMYK equivalent can match.
When you print 2 Pantone colours on top of each other, a third colour naturally emerges. Both for the designer and for us as printers, it’s hard to predict exactly how that third colour will reveal itself. And it doesn’t stop there. Each colour can also be used in transparent form, creating even more additional shades.
Each new edition of the Aximax brochure is assigned its own colour combination. These changing duos give every issue its own character, while the series as a whole remains instantly recognisable. It’s an identity system that breathes — and one that, precisely because of its limitations, never becomes monotonous.
