Inspiration often comes when you are away from home. For photographer Zoé Komkommer, a family home in the south of France was the source of inspiration. She started with her own archive, built up over the years in and around this second home. Zoé combined her own images with those of her mother, which were taken in the same place years ago. In doing so, she created a timeless connection between the past and the present, with the house as the central point. ‘Call it a past future tense,’ explains Zoé.

In the second chapter of the publication, Zoé has incorporated images she received from her grandmother. These images, taken by the architect’s assistant just before the renovations, date back approximately 50 years.
By combining the first chapter with the second, Zoé was able to juxtapose the dreamlike with the literal. The summery, nostalgic atmospheric images contrast with the house in disrepair, patiently awaiting a new purpose. The generations entering the house are getting younger and younger, while the house itself is visibly falling into disrepair.
The book was designed by graphic designer Zoé Pecqueux.
Sales The book is selling well, with around forty copies still available at Cronopio in Antwerp, no. 63 in Ghent and directly from Zoé herself.
